Stamped Concrete

Stamped concrete is a unique way of coating any surface that you can think of with a patterned design to trick the eye into thinking it’s something else. This is common in driveway construction, pool decking, pathways, and entryways where you want to add elegance but don’t want it to cost too much.

The price of stamped concrete is determined by a number of factors, including the size of the project, the complexity of the design, and the materials used. However, in general, stamped concrete is more expensive than regular concrete but less expensive than stone or brick.

Is Stamped Concrete worth the money?

There is no simple answer to this question. But… to answer it simply, YES. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Stamped concrete can be more expensive than other materials like asphalt or gravel, but it will also last longer and look nicer. On the other hand, it can be much cheaper than materials such as stone or brick while being able to give you the exact look of these materials. So, if you want a luxurious look at a fraction of the cost, think about stamped concrete.
  • The long-term upkeep of stamped concrete is typically minimal, which is another money-saving aspect to consider. You will never need to reset or replace your stamped concrete like you would with another option such as pavers. It is durable in almost every environment, so there is no need to worry about getting through the seasons.
  • Stamped concrete is also known to increase your property value. It gives your property a new aesthetic look that adds curb appeal. So, when you think about designing a patio, driveway, or something of the sort, consider stamped concrete.
  • Stamped Concrete is known to increase property value by up to 15%!

Elements that affect the cost of Stamped Concrete

When you start a Stamped Concrete project, you have a lot of decisions to make about various details before getting it started. Knowing how each of these decisions will affect the cost of your project is imperative to having full control of your budget and time. We wanted to share the following items to consider when planning out your project:

  • Concrete Removal – Have old concrete slabs that you need to be removed? This is an initial cost to consider.
  • Reinforcements – While we definitely suggest using reinforcements to help your stamped concrete last much longer, you need to know that this is an additional fee that will increase the cost of your project.
  • Grade of Concrete – A higher grade of concrete, higher cost, also higher quality
  • Design – Creating a beautiful and intricate design takes time and talent, so expect that the more complex, the more it will cost.
  • Thickness – The thicker your concrete is, the more materials are used, which means more cash is required.
  • Colors – Colors can take your stamped concrete pathway to a whole other level; you can use contrasting colors to give your design detail and depth. It’s a great option to beautify your space; just be prepared for extra costs.

How to save money on stamped concrete

Although stamped concrete is cheaper than some options, it can still add up. And who doesn’t want to cut corners where they can? You still deserve beautifully designed stamped concrete for your patio or driveway. We wanted to share a few secrets to help:

  • Keep the design, and cut out the extra colors.
    • With alternating patterns, you don’t need to pay for extra coloring. Stick with one color, and it will save you a lot of money.
    • Only do partially stamped concrete.
      • You might want to think about doing most of your project with plain concrete and adding in stamped concrete for only part of your project, such as a stamped concrete border.
    • Break Down your Project
      • If your budget is pushed too much by doing it all at once, consider doing it in stages. This can give you time to make and save for each section of your project.
